rEvolution's martial arts program offers classes for ages 3 through adult, 6 days a week. Judo, Hapkido, and Taekwondo are the traditional styles you will be learning. You are also eligible to attend our kickboxing and no gi classes! All classes are instructed and overseen by Master John Brown and his team of instructors, ranking from 1st to 3rd degree black belts. Q: Do I have to sign a contract?
A: We never have contracts at rEvolution.
Q: Is taekwondo really an effective style of self defense?
A: When taught traditionally, with the influence on self defense & combat, yes. Judo and hapkido are also complete self defense systems. When taught to flow together seamlessly, they can work flawlessly.
Q: Do I have to kick high?
A: Not necessarily. Your flexibility will improve, but it is not imperative that you kick high for self defense.
Q: How often do you test for belts?
A: Students that attend a minimum of 2 classes per week are eligible to test every 4 months.
Q: Do you have to spar in your classes?
A: As a part of our martial art program you will eventually be required to spar. There is no way to simulate an attack or competition without contact.
Q: Do I have to bow? Isn't that a religious thing or something?
A: Bowing in martial arts is not an act of subserviance. Bowing is a sign of respect, much like a handshake or a salute.
Q: As an adult student do I have to study all the styles that you teach?
A: Yes. The reason we teach all three styles is to better prepare the student to flow from striking, to throwing, to joint manipulation and any flow necessary to adapt to the confrontation or competition at hand. We whole heartedly believe in a wholistic approach to martial arts. rEvolution incorporates martial science with sport science and mental preparedness.
Q: When will I know enough to really defend myself.
A: This varies from student to student. You will get back 10,000 fold what you put into your martial art training. Like any other skill that invloves muscle memory, adrenalin dumping situations, and neuromuscular refinement... perfect practice makes perfect.
